Stainless Steel Pipe 316L is a low carbon version of grade 316, composed of chromium, nickel, and molybdenum. The molybdenum content enhances corrosion resistance, particularly in marine and chloride environments, while the low carbon content prevents carbide precipitation during welding. SS 316L Pipe has a minimum tensile strength of 515 MPa, a minimum yield strength of 205 MPa, and exhibits 40% elongation with a density of 8000 kg/m³.
The 316L Stainless Steel Seamless Pipe is available in sizes from ½" to 24" NB, while the welded pipe ranges from 6" to 100" NB. Stainless Steel Pipe 316L is a low carbon variant of grade 316 austenitic stainless steel containing chromium, nickel and molybdenum. The low carbon content (0.03% max) prevents carbide precipitation during welding, making it ideal for demanding corrosive environments.
SS 316L has a lower carbon content (0.03% max) compared to SS 316 (0.08% max). This reduces the risk of intergranular corrosion after welding. Both grades have similar corrosion resistance properties, but 316L is preferred for welded fabrications.
SS 316L has the UNS designation S31603, Werkstoff Nr. 1.4404 (or 1.4435) per DIN/EN standards, and is equivalent to SUS 316L in JIS standards.
SS 316L seamless pipes are available from 1/2" to 24" NB, welded/EFW pipes from 6" to 100" NB, and the overall OD range is 6 mm to 914.4 mm with wall thicknesses from 0.3 mm to 50 mm.
